So I just installed v1.36b to my Visual Studio 2010 Professional edition (see below for list of extensions etc). The basic problem is that the NCrunch menu-item (which should be next to the File-Edit-View in the main menu?) does not appear. I've played around a bit, and found that it just doesn't appear in some circumstances.

If I install it, then open a solution (including a blank class library one), no menu-item. If I close VS, then repair the install (via programs/features or re-running MSI), then the menu-item does appear. If I then close VS and re-open it, the menu-item is no longer there. If I close the solution and re-open it, the menu-item remains; I guess because the VS process doesn't go away.

I'm running on Win2008 R2 x64.

I've included what I expect to be helpful, but happy to send over logs and so forth as necessary.

Hi Peter -

Thanks for the detailed list of your extensions, this is enormously helpful. Several months ago a user on this forum reported a very similar sounding issue and he discovered the source of the problem to be the ExtensionSync addin. Apparently, this addin was trying to synchronise his list of installed extensions and was routinely deleting the NCrunch install directory. Try deactivating this addin and see if it solves your problem.

Awesome! Fixed by:

- disabling ExtensionSync
- stopping VS
- repairing the ncrunch install
- starting VS again

I'll link the ExtensionSync developer(s) at this post.

The ExtensionSync developer, https://github.com/latish, has been able to replicate the problem. https://github.com/latis...4#issuecomment-3599833.

I wonder if ncrunch's installation-date (which latish reports as being 18/Dec/2011, despite his test happening on 21/Jan/2012) is being hard-set to the package build-date, rather than dynamically to <installation-date> when the installer is run? I noticed this version of ncrunch was released on 19/Dec/2011 so it seemed reasonable the package was built on 18/Dec/2011...

That's quite possible. Thanks for letting me know, I'll note it down to take a closer look. MSIs tend to be a bit of a nightmare for VS installs (they have a mind of their own).
