Hello.
I really love NCrunch and successfuly use it on one of my computers. It is definitely a great tool. However, on my laptop I have experienced a very annoying and confusing issue. I have installed the latest version of NCrunch(1.38.17) without any problems but when I'm trying to select any of menu items - nothing happens at all. It does not hang or something it just does nothing.
I'm using Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate. I have tried to reinstall NCrunch, run VS as administrator, nothing helps though.
I would very appreciate any suggestions or tips.

Thank you.

Hi, thanks for posting!

I hope you don't mind me shooting some quick questions at you to help understand this issue:

- Are there any menu items in the list that give any kind of response?
- Does the menu show any engine modes under the 'Set Engine mode' submenu?
- Does the failure to select menu items occur before or after opening a solution with VS?
- Do you have any other VS plugins/addins installed?
- Does re-running the installer make any difference?

Thanks!

Hi, thank you for a quick reply!

I'll answer correspondingly:
- None of menu items gives a response.
- Yes, it has "Placeholder" and "Customise Engine Modes" submenus which do not respond either.
- It occures always whether I open solution or not.
- Well, I have ReSharper 5.1, StyleCop 4.7, SpecFlow 1.8.1, NuGet 1.6, Windows Phone Test Project.
- I havent noticed any difference after reinstall.

Regards,
Volodymyr.

Ok - it looks like the VS package for NCrunch is failing to initialise. We need to find out why. One thing that could be useful is to have a look at the Visual Studio log file.

Try loading up Visual Studio with: devenv.exe /log c:\vslog.log

After VS initialises, close it down and have a look at the c:\vslog.log file. Scan through it for anything NCrunch related. Do you see anything interesting?

Hey!
Thank you very much! I have found a problem.
I have checked the log file as you suggested and found an error message:
"Error while reading from configuration file 'C:\%MY USER APP DATA FOLDER%\Roaming\NCrunch\globalconfig.crunch.xml', is the file corrupt or in use?"
I had an old file there, somehow it was not updated after reinstalling NCrunch, by this reason VS could not initialise NCrunch. I had deleted this file and renew NCrunch installation and it worked like a charm!

Thank you again, and sorry for not checking this issue more closely before bothering you.

Best regards.

Was just about to post the same issue. I had to do a hard reset on my machine and was getting VS giving an error saying that the nCrunch extension didn't initialize properly.

After a lot of uninstalling / reinstalling (not nCrunch's fault - I was getting other errors too) I happened to notice that globalconfig.crunch.xml in my roaming profile was just full of nulls.

Ideally as well as handling this better, the nCrunch uninstaller would offer to remove this file as it would have fixed it in my case.

Thanks Alex :)

I've noted this one down for better handling in the future release.
