Setup Problems

3.5.1 installer installs only in one VS 2017 Instance

Hi,

i have two VS Versions installed. VS 2017 Enterprise (Main for Working) and VS 2017 Community (Testing, checking what is the available feature set).

I installed NCrunch 3.5.1, and it installed only in VS2017 Community. I installed VS in the following order Enterprise -> Community.

Best Regards

Albert

Hi Albert,

This is correct. I've yet to find a way to produce an MSI that can target multiple install locations dynamically. I had expected multiple installations of VS2017 to be quite a rare edge case :)

It is still possible to install to multiple IDEs, but you'll need to do a manual installation for IDEs that the installer doesn't target. See https://www.ncrunch.net/documentation/manual-installation-instructions.
I think with VS2017 and the New Installer it will be more often that es User has several Versions Side-By-Side.
Because of the posbillities to also install Previews https://www.visualstudio.com/vs/preview/

This is a good reason that I hadn't considered before. Thanks for making me aware of it.
I'm not too familiar with MSI, but it seems that the VSIX installer supports multiple instances of VS 2017; http://www.visualstudioextensibility.com/2017/01/10/its-time-to-change-the-vsix-manifest-of-your-extension-to-v3-for-visual-studio-2017-compatibility/
