Setup Problems

NCrunch Menu Still In VS2017 After Uninstall

Started by cbondeson on 6,487 views

I recently uninstalled NCrunch and the NCrunch menu is still showing. I searched my extensions folder and I didn't find any references to NCrunch so it looks like it was removed.

Any help would be great.
Hi, thanks for sharing this problem.

I offer my apologies for this as I realise how frustrating uninstall problems can be.

Try the following:
1. Close all instances of Visual Studio
2. Browse to the NCrunch installation directory (for VS2017, this is usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017\Enterprise\Common7\IDE\Extensions\Remco Software\NCrunch for Visual Studio 2017)
3. Make sure this directory is deleted
4. Run the following command: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017\Enterprise\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" /setup
5. Wait for devenv to finish its work (you can watch it in Task Manager)
6. All installation state should now be completely removed.
I double checked and yes the folder does not exist. I am using the professional version of VS and it does that "/setup" is not a valid command for devenv.exe.

The /setup switch is used to reset VS's extension cache and is used by most installers targeting all tiers and versions of Visual Studio. See here for more details.

When faced with an extension cache or install state issue, /setup is usually the quickest way to clear things up. You'll need to run this step to tell Visual Studio that the extension is gone.

Note that this step must be run as an Administrator (sorry, I forgot to mention that earlier).

Edited

So for some reason it worked when I used command prompt but not when I was using power shell. That seems to have fixed it, thank you.
