Hello,
My instance of NCrunch was working fine until a few days ago. I am using VS 2019 and was using NCrunch 4.3.0.13 initially when the problem started ,so I upgraded to the latest version today and still have the same problem. I have uninstalled the previous version and installed the new one. Restarted the laptop and the VS instance multiple times.
The other options in the Menu are enabled but the Enable NCrunch option is disabled and the engine is not started.

Hi, thanks for sharing this problem.
Can you confirm whether you're using a preview version of VS?
Could you submit an NCrunch bug report after you've opened a solution in the IDE?

Hi,
No I am not using a Preview version of VS. It is the same version of VS that was working perfectly well with NCrunch last week.
I will raise a bug report through the IDE.
Thanks

Thanks for submitting the bug report.
It looks like something is blocking the engine process from starting. If you haven't already, try reinstalling NCrunch. Check that the files in the NCrunch install directory aren't being blocked by the OS/Explorer (it's frustrating but it does often do this if you extracted the files from ZIP). If you're running a virus scanner, try deactivating it temporarily as it may be blocking the nCrunch.EngineHost462.x64.exe process from starting.
Running the nCrunch.EngineHost462.x64.exe file from the NCrunch install directory using Windows Explorer might give you a meaningful error that could give a useful clue as to the cause of the problem.

Uninstalling and Reinstalling multiple times made no difference it still wouldn't start.
I can start the EngineHost manually in a command window and then it runs ok with no error messages. Restarting the computer requires it to be restarted manually each time.
It started after a Windows Update had occurred. The same update has completely wiped out Docker Desktop as well.

Hi,
I'm sorry this problem is persisting for you.
Would you mind trying to close all VS instances and deleting the globalconfig.crunch.v3.xml file which is located here: C:\Users\[USER]\AppData\Roaming\NCrunch

I tried that but it made no difference.
I now can't even kick start it by running the Engine host myself, it won't start at all.

Running the EngineHost EXE directly will start the process and it will immediately self-terminate. I suggested this as a way to try and troubleshoot the problem, as if the O/S or a virus scanner is blocking the EXE from loading, often this can give a more useful error.
Do you see anything in your windows event viewer after NCrunch fails to start from inside the IDE? Something in your environment is either blocking the process or a critical component in the platform itself is failing.
The Event Viewer has exceptions logged
Faulting Application nCrunch.EngineHost462.x64.exe
Faulting module ntdll.dll, version 10.0.18362
Exception code : 0xc0000005

Could you try the following to see if any of these resolves the issue?
- Reinstall/repair .NET Framework 4.8
- Clear your Nuget package cache (i.e. C:\Users\Remco\.nuget)
- Install any pending Windows Updates
- Try installing and running the NCrunch console tool over your solution to see if it gives a useful result
- (if all else fails) Repair/reinstall your current version of VS
Unfortunately the error described is an unmanaged exception that usually shows up when something is going wrong in the platform itself, which means we need to treat this as a system/install/environment issue rather than a software bug.
