starting from September 5th, the MCP server started to issue the following in response to the keep-alive ping RPC request:
System.InvalidOperationException: Unsupported method: ping
at NCrunch.MCP.McpJsonRpcServer.HandleRequest(JsonRpcRequest request)
at NCrunch.MCP.McpJsonRpcServer.HandleLine(String line)
Consequence: the MCP server responds in new Copilot CLI sessions, but tools are no longer discovered after a while, or after Copilot restart.
Thanks for sharing this issue. As you've identified, the NCrunch MCP server doesn't implement the ping function. There's also been a problem where calling an unsupported function isn't returning a standard result. My guess would be that an update to co-pilot made it more particular in regards to NCrunch's failures in this area.
Would you be interested in trying the build below? It introduces a ping function, along with a range of other MCP stability and schema improvements.
