Any way to restrict access to the license server?

Started by ReevesB on 7,800 views

I'm running the license server to manage keys for my group and would like to find a way to restrict access to the license server to only certain people. Has anybody had any luck applying windows authentication to the license server and locking down access to a security group? We have a problem of people not in our group finding out about the license server and using up all our keys.

Thanks
Hi,

This is an incoming feature for v2.17 of NCrunch/LicenseServer. The new version will allow you to blacklist or whitelist based on a number of parameters, including the user's login name (which should correspond with a domain account).

I have an early build if you'd like to give it a try. Note that the new features will only work correctly if you also upgrade the NCrunch clients to 2.17:

Thank you, Remco. This is great news. I'll test this out in the next couple days when our license upgrade purchase comes through. For now, we are stuck on version 2.15.
I should add, thanks for adding the license server. It makes a huge difference in managing all the licenses for our organization.
I installed the new version and I like the available permissions options. I've used the unique ID blacklist as well as the username block list and it works well. The top of my wish list right now includes:
- view IP address and username for assigned licenses (to help me inform block lists & debug issues with users getting their keys revoked due to 'another machine is using this key' errors and to inform block lists
- manage allowed by active directory group membership, rather than manually

thanks
