On loading a large solution (~100 projects) via command line (devenv.exe $Solution) ncrunch crashes Visual Studio. Visual Studio restarts -> crashes again and again and so on.
When I start VS after a crash without solution it tells me that ncrunch caused the crash
I enabled logging of VS but unfortunately there is nothing in the log files indicating an error.
When i disable ncrunch the solution loads perfectly.
I do not have the issue with smaller solutions

Hi thanks for posting.

Sorry this is happening. VS2019 handles loading of extensions pretty differently than under VS2017. All of this code is pretty new.

Does this same solution work under VS2017 with NCrunch?

Normally I would ask you to submit a bug report, but it seems you aren't getting that far. If you could confirm this works with vs2017, I'll prepare a build that should give a live log dump to disk for you to submit if you are willing to try that.

yes it works with 2017. I worked on this solution for years with ncrunch and had no problems prior to updating to VS2019.

If you give me a version with advanced loggin I would gladly test it and provide the generated logs

Thanks for confirming that it works with 2017.

NCrunch_VS2019_3.28.0.1.msi

This release should (hopefully) write logging to c:\temp. Could you mail those files to michael@ncrunch.net.

Hi,

since I installed VS2019 version 16.2.5 yesterday I have the same issue as described in my initial post. I am using the latest ncrunch version (3.30.0.1).
Are there any known issues with this particular version of VS?

Greetings
Lars

Hi Lars,

Sorry this is happening again. I haven't had any issues that version myself.

Would you mind checking to see if there's anything in the windows event viewer? Did VS blame us again after the crash? (sometimes we are wrongly accused of a crash)

Could you also try start VS from the CLI with the option /log c:\temp\log.xml and see if there's anything in that?

Hi Michael,

unfortunately there is nothing in the logs regarding the crash. The crash is shown in the event log but unfortunatly there is no information regarding the cause.
VS tells nothing this time about who caused the crash, but the crash only occurs when ncrunch is enabled. When I disable the ncrunch extension completely then VS starts without any problems.

Hi Lars,

I did some testing with 30.0.1 to see if I hadn't accidentally fixed the issue while preparing for 16.3. The currently release version seems to be working fine for me with 16.2.5. Of course this doesn't help you at all :)

I'm building a new version that does some logging to a file to see if we can narrow this down. I'll post the download links when that has gone through our pipeline.

Here's a release that logs to c:\temp. Could you give this release a go and send me the log files? You can mail me at michael at ncrunch dot net.
