Hi there,

I have recently installed VS2017 on a new machine and as part of that have put NCrunch 3.14 (my highest licensed version) back on. I had to install it on my other one because it was under powered for my use case so it's been a while since I've used it.

NCrunch appears to have installed correctly, but for whatever reason, it isn't appearing.

I have taken the following steps to try to resolve this without success:

  • Uninstall and re-install.
  • Confirm that the installation .msi wasn't blocked.
  • Download the manual install zip and follow the manual install instructions for VS2017.
  • Ensure it wasn't blocked (it was so unblock it).
  • Check again to make sure it wasn't blocked (it isn't now).
  • Seriously, check again that it's not blocked. It's definitely not, and I have pictures to prove it. :-)

Sadly NCrunch still does not appear in Visual Studio.

I have had a look at a similar post but, as per above, it doesn't do any good.

Any help would be great. I appreciate that the age of my license may not cover me for support, and I'll understand if that's the case.

Thanks, Dan
Remco

Hi Dan,

Thanks for sharing this issue.

It's been 6 months since v3.14 was released, and we've put out 6 more versions since then to address compatibility issues caused by changes in the platform. Sadly, in terms of VS/Platform changes, 6 months is now an eternity. We've seen several major revisions of VS2017 over this space of time, and it's impossible to warrant that older versions of NCrunch will continue to work or load into the IDE. Sorry, but for us to invest time in troubleshooting this issue you'll need to upgrade your NCrunch to the latest version.

Hi,

Thank you for the reply.

I suspected that this would be the case but am surprised there are no maintenance releases.

Since 3.14 is the highest version supported by my current license, this is where I'll unfortunately have to leave NCrunch behind.

Thanks, Dan

I'm sorry to hear that. Over 70% of the time and effort spent on the product (plus all of 2017) goes into keeping it updated with Microsoft's shifting sands. If we didn't charge for such a service, there would be no business and no NCrunch.
